Happy National Tequila Day! This is a holiday I can get behind – and over the years, I’ve shared quite a few keto-friendly and low carb cocktail recipes with tequila, so on this special day, I’m sharing my favorites.
The key to remember about keto cocktails and low carb cocktails is to watch the mixers. Liquor like tequila, vodka, and gin are all zero carb, however it’s what we mix with them that can make the sugar (and therefore carb count) creep up. Thankfully, many of the typically high sugar mixers — like margarita mix or simple syrup — are easily reimagined with alternative sweeteners. So you can indulge in a cocktail here and there without the guilt!
When buying tequilas, look for those without additives. While the additives don’t always add carbs — they sometimes do, so read labels! — they do alter the flavor of tequila.
